Kate Inglis lives on the edge of a meat-grinder sea on the far eastern coastline of Nova Scotia, where she was born. She can show you where pirates buried treasure, yanks a good rope and steps barefoot on dead jellyfish for cheap thrills.
Kate, a writer and photographer, can also be found at sweet | salty, where she has chronicled a journey that's been equal parts joy, blessings and unexpected bumps.
The Dread Crew: Pirates of the Backwoods is Kate's first novel. It arrived one foggy day, crashing through her head as she walked in the woods with a kid named Eric—who may or may not be a pirate hunter. She is sworn to secrecy.
The book is beautifully illustrated by Halifax native Sydney Smith, and published by Nimbus. First edition hardcovers can still be found on shelves at Canadian retailers such as Chapters.ca, Amazon.ca and your local indie bookstore, but call ahead first to confirm stock.
The distribution plan for 2010 is a three-step release that frees the last of the sumptuous hardcovers and rolls out the new, special-edition softcover first in Canada, then in the States. For more on growing North American availability throughout 2010, go here.
